Hi everyone,
I am a waxer not a shaver. This doesn't bother me, I don't mind what people think. But I have found a lot of people turn to shaving because it "easier". The truth is, this just isn't true. Waxing is just as easy as shaving and the result, is 10 times better. So I thought today I would give you my insight into what waxing is and why you could benefit from it.
What is waxing?
This is for all you waxing newbies out there. Your not the only ones. When I first started having waxing done I had no idea what to expect. I had done waxing briefly myself at college. So I had spent a couple of years doing my legs myself on and off over this time. Then it got to the time that I started my job and I thought hey why not give it a go with our beauty therapist. I had no idea of what to expect as I had never experienced waxing in a salon environment.
So getting down to what waxing is. This is where you have hot wax applied to an area where there is unwanted hair. Next a wax strip is applied over the top of the wax and the wax is ripped off. Bare in mind a wax strip is not always used. Some waxes you leave and then pull the wax itself, without a strip. If you don't want to go to a salon to have it done you can purchase wax strips that already have the wax on. Which you just apply to the area and then rip off.
What can you get waxed?
Waxing is an amazing thing as almost anywhere can be waxed. Some places you can get waxed includes:
- Legs
- Back
- Chest
- Arms
- Bikini line
- Underarms
- Eyebrows
- Face
- Lip
- Chin
Different salons offer different treatments. Some salons even offer more intimate waxing.

How long have I been waxing for?
When I was at high school I went to college two days a week to do a hair and beauty course. So I started to wax myself on and off at home. Then in my second year of college I started my job and I decided it was time to start getting waxed professionally. Five years later I am still at. When I first started getting waxed I started with my eyebrows and lip. From then on I gradually built up having different places waxed as well.
What do I get waxed and how often do I get it done?
I have a full leg wax, bikini line wax, underarm wax and an eyebrows and lip wax. I have all of these done every four weeks. Sometimes five if I cant make four.
Benefits of waxing?
- It pulls the hair right from the root. So when the hair grows back it is finer and grows at a much slower rate.
- It leaves your skin feeling and looking incredibly smooth for weeks.
- You only have to bother with hair removal every four weeks or so.
- You will never have to shave again.
- You don't get any rashes that you can get when you shave.
- I personally don't find that it is painful at all. The only place I do find it is tender is my eyebrows and lip.
- Hair will not grow back before 2-8 weeks. This depends on how long you have been doing it.
Disadvantages of waxing?
There really isn't any. The only thing I can think of is that you shouldn't shave between waxing sessions. So you get a little bit hairy, but trust me its worth it.
My top tip?
Do not shave between waxing. This will only ruin all the work that has gone into growing and waxing the hair that was previously there. I have been having my legs waxed professionally for around 5 years now and I haven't shaved them once in all that time. Now, when four weeks comes around the hair on my legs is patchy, fine and barely there. When I had them waxed last time it had been 6 weeks. The amount of hair on my legs I would compare to maybe a week without shaving them. That's how good it is.

So that's my post about why I think you should give waxing a go. Honestly, it takes time to build it up to having barely any hair there when it does grow back. But having said this you notice the different after the first session. Are you a shaver or a waxer? Let me know in the comments. Also what are your views on waxing?

Waxing means no more Neanderthal back for me! I find that nothing can beat the ease and convenience of waxing. The person that does mine is very fast so it doesn't even hurt that much. Afterward, I find that a little Aloe Vera gel rubbed in right away helps prevent any irritation or breakouts.
ReplyDeleteHi William,
DeleteThank you so much for your lovely comment. I know exactly what you mean. The girl that does mine is super quick I cant get over how quickly she gets all my waxing done. Yes aloe vera gel is perfect for after waxing. Its amazing to hear its not only us girls that go through this crazy process to be hair free.
