Manicure or Shellac manicure??

Hi everyone,

I have to admit getting my nails done is something I love doing. It is ok doing it yourself, but they never look the same. I also love the feeling of going and having them done, its so relaxing. Its the perfect "you" time. But when you book that well deserved nail appointment you are faced with a question. Manicure or Gel manicure? This then start tons of questions about what's the difference? What makes it better? and How much more expensive is it? So I thought today I would talk to you about why you are offered either a manicure or a gel manicure. For the purpose of this post I am using Shellac as my gel polish, as this is what are beauty therapist uses within our salon.

I know how it feels when you book an appointment and you are given these two options. Its mind boggling. But honestly the answer is all down to you. Personally when I go get my nails done I always get Shellac. Why? Because its better for the job I am in and if I am honest I just prefer it. But first let me explain to you what the difference between these two are.

A normal manicure is when the therapist will work with your cuticles and apply a normal nail polish. They may also add in extras like a hand mask. It really depends where you go and what kind of manicure you choose. A normal nail polish is like any other nail polish you can buy. The ones the therapist will use will obviously be a salon brand. What I find with normal nail polish is that I chip it very easily and with my work, I am lucky if I get one day out of wearing it. Another thing with polish is that you have to wait for it to dry. This is where I always go wrong if I paint my nails myself. I am too impatient to wait and I end up smudging them, every time. What I love about normal polish is you can change it just like that. All you need is some polish remover and your good to go.

Now a gel polish is guaranteed up to two weeks, you can get more. A gel polish is when the therapist will do cuticle work and then apply the gel polish. For the polish to work the way it does your nails have to go under a lamp between each coat, this is to cure them. One thing with choosing a gel polish is that your nails are dry instantly. No faffing trying to get stuff out of your bag without putting a massive smudge on them. Also the shine is incredible. They look glossy and perfect. Things that may put you off is that once the colour is on, its on. You can remove them but this is a much longer process than with ordinary polish. It requires you soaking your nails in a special remover and then gently removing it with an orange stick. So if you are someone who changes their mind a lot gels may not be for you.

Both services have their good and their bad points. I personally, like I said will always go for a gel polish. I mean flawless nails for up to two weeks, what more could a girl ask for? But I know its not for everyone. I adore gels because I use to bite my nails. If my beauty friend didn't get me into having gels done I wouldn't have the lovely beautiful healthy long nails I have today.

What is your opinion, are you a polish or a gel kind of girl? Let me know in the comments I would love to hear. I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. I will see you all lovely readers next week.

Love
Zoe x
